Diana ..My daughter's was on the arms of a recliner. They are wood, padded with cotton and leather covered. I got wide tape from Hobby Lobby that was the closest to the reddish brown of the leather. I taped then purchased a small cover that covered the seat and the arms. It works well tucking in the seat a little. I thought about covering the taped arms with 2 matching doilies but have not as yet, however, I believe it would work using a velcro closure underneath. Any type material could also be cut to size and velcro closure i believe especially if pattern and color coordinated with room. Good luck

    1. Cut off the jagged edges of the hole with sharp scissors and remove extra stuffing sticking out of the hole.
    2. Apply a layer of leather filler inside the hole. ...
    3. Apply a small amount of glue around the perimeter of the torn area.

Is there anywhere underneath or behind the couch where there's a little bit of extra leather you might cannibalize to cover the hole in the more noticeable area? Sometimes there's a little bit of extra leather around the edges or underneath that you could take. Then use leather-safe glue to attach it.

This is unfortunate to read, so sorry.

If you can find a “donor” section, like the side of the cushion, then I would patch it with the donor.

I don’t know what “leather filler” is and so I would patch the donor-area with a similar vinyl & an automotive vinyl repair kit.

  • Hi, Diana!

Furniture Clinic has some really great products for repairing leather and if I remember correctly, they can also custom match the color of leather on a swatch. I've used their products with favorable results... I hope this helps!

I have used 3M leather repair kits with great success. The kit I get has several pots of liquid vinyl so that you can mix your color to an exact match. It also comes with a piece of patch material that you use for the base and grain presses to match texture. It is tedious but the results are great.

    Hello Diana,

Could this be a candidate for an insurance claim? If not look and see if you can harvest a piece of the leather from somewhere on the Loveseat that will not be noticed (Underside of seat maybe). If not and leather oddment is not available in the right colour, buy a lighter leather and dye it to match or find a piece of fabric that could look like leather when painted over with shoe polish the right colour Velvet?? Cut a small square and colour it up. Place the square inside the hole and stick it to the leather all around to secure. Touch in with polish or Sharpie pens to disguise. If still not happy with result you could always use a suitable upholstery trim across both cushions to cover the damage. Best wishes.
