It depends on the look you want. You could paint a piece of Masonite that is cut to fit.
You could replace with metal that you can texturize with a wire brush/drill, metal screen or metallic grid heavy gauge fencing, birch-faced 1/4" plywood, metallic ceiling tile, plexiglass, mirror including plexiglass mirror, some of the new fiberpanels with grass or leaves in the panel is gorgeous but pricey,
I would do large pieces of tile like granite or do wood panels. You could also tile a mosaic onto the glass
Tiles attach to a board would look great.
Wood, metal, marble, granite, and I think a mosaic would look pretty and add color if it fits with the style of your decor.

Wicker always works, unless you just Stain the Glass to make it look more appealing.
