What paint should I use for making over an old metal cabinet?

You can use a variety of different paints. The biggest thing is to prime it with primer that will bond with metal. That way the paint will stick to the metal without easily scratching off. Then you can paint with latex or chalk paint.

RustOleum is the only thing I would use on metal. Scuff with steel wool first. Spray paint would be my preference.

I would use a spray paint , like rustoleum . I would clean it well , first and scuff it with a sanding sponge , to make the paint adhere better ! Good luck & post your project !!!

Kathy is correct in that you need a DTM paint (direct-to-metal). Rustoleum is a good choice but I would use their metal primer first to keep the paint intact. Even though they state it's paint + primer, I have seen a big difference in my results by priming first. If you want a color they don't make, you can get any color mixed for you at Sherwin Williams. Make sure to tell them you want a DTM paint.

Make sure you give it a good clean first too, remove any grease spots.
