Many many years ago we had a tiny kitchen in a rather nice Brooklyn apt (two marble fireplaces) my husband built a counter to go in front of the large window in our kitchen space. Post pictures of your kitchen and we can give many more suggestions.

    Hello Debbie,

Could you use a Trolley or table on wheels or a pull up flap or a board over the Sink or Cooker top, or across between cabinets? Best wishes for the New year!

  • Hi, Debbie!

Is there room to build a small island? I would also suggest a small cabinet or even a repurposed desk with casters so it could be moved out of the way. I hope this helps!

I redid a client's 1910 kitchen with 2 cabinets. First added a metal grid to the wall to hang pots and large utensils on it using S-hooks. Then I made a coffee center with one of those little wooden shelf units you see in the thrift stores, adding hooks underneath to hang the coffee cups, and a couple of small canisters for coffee & sugar on another wall space. I added a couple white wire towel bars next to the store to store the glass pot lids, Get some of those white wire dish stackers for the cabinets to double space inside. The lower cabinet I put a 2 litre bottle plastic bag storer to one door, and the other door I added a magazine storage unit to store cutting boards. I also added a large shelf over the door.

In my own kitchen I greatky improved storage for dried and canned goods by adding a narrow pantry on wheels next to the frig. and oven, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ANKwCKhdON4

Hi Debbie. It sounds like you need a kitchen island. If you don't have space to put an island in the middle of your kitchen, you can put castor wheels on one and push it out of the way when not in use.

  • Hi Debbie - We have a large kitchen but an awkward layout that does not allow for a lot of storage. Here are some great ideas you can use too. Hope this helps! Hugs, Holly

You can cover your range with a cutting board when not in use, or use same cutting board over your sink for extra counter space when cooking.
