Try boiling about 3 big pots of water and pour it down the drain Quickly. Be mindful of splashes! Ground up dibris gets stuck in the drain and starts a stink. Also make sure you a run a hard water stream for a few seconds longer after you use the disposal. Helps to flush the pipes.
Turn on the garbage disposal and pour 1 cup of dry baking soda down, along with a cup of distilled white vinegar, to help remove strong odors. In a pinch, vinegar can be used on its own along with cool water
A couple things I do is throw a couple ice cubes in there and half lemon and run it for a minute. They also make these scented balls called Plink that deodorizes the garbage dsposal.
I have also used Roebic Drain Cleaner in my garbage disposal overnight, add a capful to warm water and throw it down there overnight, then run hot water in the morning.
Yes! We have a friend who is a plumber. He says ice cubs are great at "cleaning" garbage disposals. Also Orange peels work well! It cleans and helps it smell better. :)

Thank you but I've done that plus some little lemon balls I bought at the store but still smells.

I agree with Gk, orange, lemon , and grapefruit rinds will get rid of nasty odors, flush well with water.

There may be gunk (bits of paper, tea bag strings, etc. ) and food residue caught between the folds of the rubber rings or stopper.
Turn off the power breaker to the unit.
Wearing rubber or nitrile gloves, clean inside and in-between the rubber folds with wet paper towels and bleach ,or another disinfectant.
Turn the power back on and flush thoroughly with vinegar and very hot water.
