How do I keep silk floral “filler” to stay in place ? Examples....sand, river rocks, pebbles? I want weight in the vases, before I do the arrangement. Any other tips on how to make artificial flower arrangements?

Lisa Anne: any of those fillers would work... and they all should stay in place. I have had very good luck with a filler like this!

    Hi Lisa,

Visit the dollar store and pick out some marbles, they usually have a nice selection. Amazon also has a good selection.

Hi Lisa Anne, you can use anything you want as a filler, and if it is for a clear vase, there are a ton of lovely items at the dollar stores . Anything from , marbles, to stones, or sand or plastic beads, pick your colors (or not) and arrange your picks! You could even pick your own rocks for this if you want to. And there is also a variety of mosses out there as well, you can use it at the top of the other filler to make it look really natural. I have attached a link with some really cool ideas, hope you enjoy checking them out!

  • Is your vase clear? If it's not clear, could you use floral foam? This won't give you much weight but it will hold your stems in place.

If the vase is not clear, non-clumping kitty litter works great.

Any of the above you mentioned will work. Sand is the easiest to push floral picks into.

I hate the feel of floral foam, so I rarely use it. Pebbles, glass (like the ovals of glass at the dollar store), shredded paper like you use in gift bags, are all options.

Thanks so much! I didn’t make myself clear. I know what to buy. But do not know how to keep the marbles, rocks ect from moving on the bottom of the vase.
