Can you give me tips on painting glass textured tile?

Ok I need everyone opinion. Painted my kitchen cabinets last year and want different tile but it’s not in the budget. I have been looking at some videos of painting tile so I practiced on some extra tile we have. The sticker in my side is that our tiles are glass but textured, they are not smooth. So I’m hesitant... if they were smooth I wouldn’t second guess but not sure they look right. Can you give me your opinions?

Hi Niki, if you are looking to paint them the texture will help the paint stick! I have attached a video to help you get started on your project! I think it will be beautiful!

Is the tile you are holding the tile you practiced on? I think it looks great. Is your concern about cleaning it? Try cleaning the tiles you experimented on.

I Love the white texture !!! It looks great !!! Go for it !!!

  • I like them, but the important question is, "Do you like them?"

  • Just remember- tiles without paint are zero maintenance. Painted tiles will eventually need touch up as grease, chemicals, etc. splatter on it. But they do look good what you painted!

Instead of changing/altering the tiles (you may be sorry with the results) you should add a few accessories that work with them so the tiles look like they ate a featured piece of your decor. You could add curtains or blinds in the same color or texture. Rugs, tablecloths/runners and placemats. Even artwork and glassware. The tiles are lovely...work with that.

Hi Niki..I painted my dark brown stone tile backsplash a creamy off-white color a year ago and absolutely love it! I wish I'd done it sooner, as it made a huge difference in my kitchen and really lightened it up. I think the paint looks really good and it's easy enough to still wipe down and even touch up if I need to. It's a really inexpensive solution to ripping out the tile all together.

Glass tiles are significantly more expensive than ceramic tiles and so the reason you want to “paint” them is because you don’t like their colors?

As people have noted, painted glass and painted ceramic will need touching up, as the years go by.

If you’re OK with that, then go ahead and paint them with an appropriate primer and paint system.

Would love to see what you decided to do as we have the same exact backsplash and granite countertop! Any pics to the final look?
