Left a double boiler pot on the stove and bottom stainless pot got burned.
Oh dear, not to worry.
What you do is make a paste of baking soda and some water, spread it on the burned areas and let it set overnight. Take a dollar tree sponge (rough side) and then scrub it off, repeat if needed. Best to you.
I use a product called Cerama Bryte and it works really well on stainless cookware.

Inside: Boil dish washer powder
Outside: SOS or barkeeper's friend with steel wool scrubber or baking soda/peroxide paste with steel wool scrubber
vinegar and baking soda
All good suggestions. Filling the pot with hot soapy water, soak overnight and then a good scrub with a green pad, and/or stainless steel pad is my method.
