Can you give me ideas for decorating this wall?

I need ideas on how to decorate around a tv, the house has an open layout, and the ceiling is pitched.

This would have to be a one time project since It’s so high and difficult to reach.

I don't think you need to fill the whole wall. open space is ok!

As it appears now, our eyes are drawn to and stop at the TV. A beautiful work of art placed high on the wall will make it feel bigger and draw less emphasis on the TV. I personally love metal work that has a round or oval shape such as a clock or fillagree. A little greenery in the room will add some warmth, too.

Couldn't agree more! I personally do not like placing TVs over beautiful fireplaces.. it makes it the focus, when there are many more interesting things in the room to look at !

Today in my Hometalk email a woman did a feature wall in a small bedroom with wood and a diamond pattern. This would probably look amazing on your large wall, as well - it just might take longer than a day! On your larger "canvas" you could play around more with colors and/or patterns, maybe one or two of the spaces could have some special wallpaper or a bright colored paint just as an accent or something. Limited only by your imagination! Here is that link: https://www.hometalk.com/diy/decorate/walls/bedroom-moulding-design-feature-wall-44243984 Good luck! jh

Hello. Symmetry wise your fireplace seems to be balancing off the two larger windows. Because the fireplace ( as a focal point) is not centered you may be already utilizing the best design application. Putting something in the peak area could be too much, be overwhelming the walls composition.

Add some wainscoting to the height of the brick on the chimney making sure to account for top trim. Add a tall cabinet to the left of the big window where the three pictures are hanging. Visually this will divide the space between living room and what must be a dining area. I would leave the top of the wall as is. Pretty room!

Crown molding painted white would look nice. A clock centered between the peak and small window.

I'm sorry but your space feels "dark" to me. I would paint the entire wall white and whitewash the stone around the fireplace. I do love your blue and white chairs and the curtains. I would take the curtains to the paint store and have that blue matched in a satin finish. Paint the wall with a vertical line designating the "dining room" and continue that color over to the corner and around the attached wall.

Feeling very "designer-forward"? You can paint stripes on the ceiling within that same designated dining area. Or, put wallpaper on the ceiling above the dining area. From what I can see in your photo doing this type of treatment would fall symmetrically on the peaked wall with the 2 small windows within the "living room" area and the color treatment on the other 1/3 of the entire great room. White crown molding around the entire perimeter will tie things together along with replacing the area rug so it melds the white/blue of the dining area with the brown and gold in the living area. 😎

This end of the room may be the area you need help with but it does not exist alone, it would be helpful if you posted pictures of all four walls. You want to bring the "eye" to the left as that seems, from the slant of the ceiling to be the longer portion of the room. Paint the wall a nice light color, white or light blue or soft gray. Make a grouping of blue and white plates, which because of their size can be "played" with in many ways to draw the eye to where you need it to be (to the left) you could play around with this design on a paper pattern with small circles. Plates would be an effect that is not permanent. I would remove the t.v. from the mantelpiece. I would soften the look of the fireplace since, from your choice of curtains, chairs etc. you seem to have a soft, comfortable feminine style.

I like it "as is" but if you want to fill the space above the television you can add a large clock. Then a few small decor items on either side.

I also believe this wall needs to be lightened up to go with your lovely furnishings. Even the fireplace stonework.

The major issue I see that is disrupting the wall is its broken horizontal lines. I suggest a simple horizontal 2x6, painted the same as your wall, resting on the windows that bracket your fireplace, and running all the way across the wall. Its bottom will touch those windows, its top will make the TV top edge and the curtain rod look the same height. It will subtly unify what you now have and add a little architectural element to the room.

I would find a large wall art that has navy/blue in it. Or an area rug, placed on the diagonal to help eat some of that space up.

My eye is drawn to the whitish mantel under the TV. I think it is too light for the existing fireplace. I also think you have too many "little" things on the mantel sitting beside the TV. I am not sure about white washing the stone or just getting a darker mantel and putting one larger item or a plant on each side of the TV. Please do not put anything on the tall wall above the TV....the eye needs a resting place.
