Hello! The dollar stores have inexpensive plastic Bins and folding collapsing fabric cubes that could be up-styled with fabric or paint.
Personally I would check out thrift stores for baskets and bins potentially spray paint them for a uniform look.
Cover old shoe boxes with colorful paper (contact or glued on). That way you have more choices when it comes to color and patterns.

You can buy smallish (I'm assuming your bookshelf is 15" deep or less) fabric bins at Target for around $6 each.
Hi Ann. I recommend using cardboard to make a box. Cereal boxes work well because they are easier to cut and bend. You can customize the box so that it will fit on your bottom shelves. Once you have a cardboard box constructed, you can either paint or cover the box with fabric or contact paper. Something that will work with your decor.
