Hello Maryellen! You can make sliding barn doors with recycled doors. You will have to purchase the siding door hardware that fits your space I order to do it. Here's a bit of info for you! I wish I had the space on my walls/doors that I could do it!
Hi Maryellen: Our Hometalkers have done this. Check out the site and see which one you like :) https://www.hometalk.com/search/all?filter=how%20to%20make%20sliding%20doors%20into%20barn%20doors Good luck
The problem with using doors that are cut for a door opening, when you install the barn door hardware it will be above the door making the door too short to reach the floor. You could purchase some used 96" doors at Habitat for Humanity cheaply for this project to achieve the effect you desire.
Sliding doors, like from a sliding glass door set? Aluminum framed doors with tempered glass in them are heavy and aluminum is not much fun to get to hold stainless steel sheet metal screws.
To Sharon’s point, you’ll have to add a piece to the doors, to make the height work.
