How do I build a cat tower house with scratching post?

You see them in the stores but they are outrageous in price. Can anyone help me out with ideas?

add a scratching post to the high side. This is much stabler than a tower as you don't have to anchor it. Wrap a mailing tube in carpet, tack it down then attach it to the the drawers on the right.
