Learn how to safely refresh your home with our simple, non-toxic and natural air freshener jars crafted with essential oils, baking soda and dried lavender. These adorable fragrant jars will absorb odours and help keep your closets and dresser drawers smelling fresh and clean! No toxic ingredients or chemicals will be necessary to absorb odours. Read our easy to follow tutorial and learn how to make your own safely-scented DIY deodorizer jars.
What you will need for this easy project:
  • small mason jars
  • baking soda
  • lavender or eucalyptus essential oil
  • dried lavender
  • dried sprig of eucalyptus
  • brown paper or a grocery bag
  • raffia ribbon

For exact measurements, see our post here.
Gather your supplies including a variety of small jars or tiny mason jars.

Mix the baking soda and dried lavender in a mixing bowl. Stir well.

Next, add your essential oils.
After adding your essential oils, stir again. To create the paper top for your mason jar - use your mason jar lid insert as a guide.

Place it down on brown paper or any paper that you prefer and trace it.

Then, use a needle to poke holes in your paper circle.
Transfer your baking soda mixture into tiny mason jars. Or any small jar you may have on hand, such as a clean jam jar.

Then, pop your brown paper circle in the mason jar insert and screw on the lid. You can also use store bought mason jar inserts with holes.

Finally, add raffia ribbon and a sprig of eucalyptus.

You can use these handy jars in clothing closets, bathrooms, kitchens or anywhere prone to musty odours. These jars can also put placed on a book shelf or other out of the way spot to absorb odours in your home.
These scent-filled jars also work well in linen closets to keep your sheets and towels smelling fresh and clean.

Note: You can add more essential oils to your jars after a month if you notice their scent has dissipated. You can also use another dried flower such as rose or hibiscus. We have found that dried lavender tends to be the most fragrant though.

We hope you enjoyed this tutorial.

Use up all the Oui yogurt jars you have been saving, cover with burlap or pretty paper secure with raffia or colored string.
