I'm not sure what the white stuff is, but I'd start with some hot water and mild soap using an old rag.
Linda...Do you know what the white stuff is? I would try Dawn in hot water. Good luck
Also a magic eraser might help! I've found them to work really well on our front door!
It will depend on the "stuff" but you need to consider several factors. If you can determine "stuff", that will help. Is your door wood or metal? If wood, stain vs. paint will make a difference. I'm going on the guess it's hard water build up unless you've had a spill. Magic Eraser or blue Dawn in warm water might get it but if that doesn't, you can make a hard water solutions of vinegar, blue dawn, & lemon juice. Fill a spray bottle 1/2 full of vinegar then 1/4 dawn and 1/4 lemon juice. Let sit 10 minutes to loosen. Then using a warm bucket of water you can scrub using a Scrub Daddy sponge.
I have a painted black front door and sometimes it gets a white film (dust, pollen, etc.) that's hard to remove. I usually use the hose and a brush and it does the trick.
It would also depend on whether your door is wood or metal? It could be just dust on a dark door. Or it could be a type of mold on a wood door.
I would try a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser
