Hi Deb: If you are going from your downspout to your yard, this is what I did: I got one of those downspouts that are flexible, a piece of plastic piping that has a bunch of holes in it, I think they call it Corex Drain Pipe Perforated at the home improvement store. Pretty inexpensive, too. Then, I dug a trench in the yard wider and deeper than necessary, filled it a bit with pebbles, put in the piping on top of that and more pebbles on top and covered it up with dirt and the sod I moved when I started digging. After 20 years, no problems :) Good luck

In addition yo the aforementioned advice, check with your municipality prior to proceding, as many areas now mandate a permit for french drains.
