I like to use ceramic tiles from the home improvement store.
I pick up floor samples-vinyl/laminate plank flooring--and put adhesive cork circles on the back and use them for coasters. The small square shapes make great coasters even though they don't match. One of these days I might actually find a flooring color that works with my trim!
