Susan: I think a satin or semi-gloss latex works well. ...the little bit of "shine" helps them when it's time to clean... giving a "harder" surface. For real staying power, be sure to prime the cabinets first!! Good luck!

Hey Susan! There really isn't a one size fits all best cabinet paint, it seems everyone has their favorite! Lol!
I painted my kitchen cabinets and used Sherwin Williams Pro Classic Water Based Acrylic Alkyd! I painted them two years ago and they have held up PERFECTLY! The most important part is the prep work, make sure and strip them, sand them and clean them well before applying a good primer. I used Zinsser Bullseye primer, two coats and then the paint! I HIGHLY recommend spraying them with a paint sprayer as there really is a huge difference between the finish of a sprayer and a brush. It doesn't have to be an expensive sprayer, I love my Home Right that was 70 bucks on Amazon! And Sherwin Williams has 40% off their paints every month or two, so make sure and get it then to save quite a bit!
Hope this helps! I included pictures of my kitchen below! Have a good one!
Hi ! I did a lot of research before painting my oak cabinets white . I was looking for a way to skip the sanding . The 2 best ways were to use chalk paint and sealing wax or advance paint by Benjamin Moore. My sister used the chalk paint and her cabinets came out great . I opted for the advance paint and mine came out great as well !!! I also covered a part of the fronts with beadboard before painting . I posted a tutorial on this site called
