I would say the clean and prep work are going to be crucial. Also, spray painting is going to give a more professional look. Make sure you purchase paint that is formulated for masonry.

Chris: Give it a good cleaning and then prime. Follow that with two coats of a quality latex paint. Have fun! Good luck!
