How can I make my tiny one-bedroom home fit a family of three?

I just moved into a SMALL tiny house and the "one bedroom" is my babies room and we are in the Living room/kitchen and our bathroom is right next to the kitchen. We don't have any closets and hardly have room to put our dressers in here. I've tried using shelves and many different things. Just seems so hopeless

Downsizing is a must in a tiny home, especially with kids. If you can, store seasonal clothing somewhere else is helpful. You'll find you don't wear as much as you have on hand, for one month put everything each of you used in one basket and donate the rest. If you bring in a new item, donate an item. Soon you'll find you won't need a dresser at all and each person will have their own shelf or basket.

  • Hi Audree - Use the space above you to its best advantage. Go high with shelving or book cases for storage. Stackable bins may be a better option than a dresser. Blessings to your new home. You got this. Hugs, Holly

I thought of that but for some reason I can't for the life of me get a nail or screw in these walls they look like wood but it's almost important to get anything through it and if we do good luck getting it back out

Some really good ideas from Ginger!

Is there some way to use the spaces that are not being used? Such as under the bed, Put up pegs to hang things up, instead of folding clothes, roll them up, if you have luggage use that space as storage,

Oh, I just found these organizer ideas, they can probably be found cheaply elsewhere:

YOU can do it! Have your other make a few shelves out of plywood and at the complete bottom add a pipe of some sort across for hangin' clothes. Storage baskets of plastic or basket work for a child. you have yours and he has his. Actually you could pile your clothes on the shelving., without baskets for NOW. Starting a new project in a little home can be a ball of fun.

yes, go high up with shelving like bookcase style (make sure to secure to wall so they don't fall if there's some earthquakes OR you can secure using ladder to go in front (your desgn) to stop bookcase from falling forward & use the rungs to hang clothes, dry clothes, etc.

Leverage storage where you can. In the aritcle below - I noticed how they have built in drawers under the bed. For small children, you can probably do with long plastic totes to help organize clothes and store under their bed. https://www.hometalk.com/diy/outdoor/campers-rv-s/tiny-homes-unique-interior-home-decor-architecture-5089961

How about a "trap door" cut into the floor and boxed in for storage? A rug would cover the seams. Also how about drawers in the bottom of your living room couch? Do you have any ceiling height that you could put a loft on one side for storing boxes/bins? Can you build a storage place on the outside of your tiny house....attached to the wall...that you can store less used items? Is your baby in a crib? How about basket storage under the crib for now?

Hi ! Less is more !!! Really weed out everything ! Reduce the amount of stuff you have ! This is not an easy task !!! Easier to find a place for a smaller amount of clothes ! Less wash , too ! Use under bed storage , for shoes , and out of season clothes . Use a metal shelf unit for clothing , they hold a lot more than a dresser !

on the shelves use bins for socks , underwater , brad , pj's . The reason I said use metal shelves is first , they are inexpensive , second , you can use magnets to attach

a pretty sheet or fabric of even a shower curtain to cover up the shelf unit .

or you can put up shelf standards and use wood planks to make a wall of shelves to hold everything clothes , gamess/toys ( which also need to be whittled down , even harder than the clothes !!! ) books .... Good luck !

Is the bedroom big enough for a large bed? I would build a platform bed with storage underneath and along the sides.... and maybe even a tunnel to slide a small cradle for the baby. Many new parents sleep in the same room as the baby. If you have a corner, you could also make a crib area with ceiling to floor swagged curtains. https://www.dhgate.com/product/getProductImages.do?act=getProductImages&itemcode=417059791&pid=ff808081645ad6570164882ba2e25ae7
