Can you give me idas for making over a built-in wall unit?

I am ready to paint a built in wall unit. I would like to use two colors but not sure if I should do texture for the back wall...ideas?

If you want the unit to blend or recede into the background, paint it a darker, flat-finish, matching, neutral or "bland" color that closely resembles your walls. If you want it to " pop", use color (bright/contrasting), finish (textured) and sheen (enamel or eggshell).
The great thing about paint? If you don't like it you're not stuck with it!

It is depending on your style preference. It will be difficult to do a texture on the back, inside the unit. Also, if you ever want to change it's going to be a real pain to change.
You might want to consider using shading of the same color, 2 complimenting colors, shelf liner, or wallpaper instead. Each of those will be easier to change down the road.

You could glue fabric to the back wall giving the shelves different depth, pattern and color.
