it is a glossy old wood. We have tried baking soda and mayonnaise.
How can I repair a burn spot on wood?

I would try some old English. Put it on the stain and let it soak in. Buff it off and repeat a couple more times. I've seen this work well on many stains because the old English has kind of a stain in it.
Maybe try sanding the whole thing down and restaining it.
Hi Kim. I'm Cindy. Make a paste from salt and olive oil. Put the paste right on the marks and walk away. Wait a few hours and come back to wipe the salt paste. Repeat if necessary. The salt will pull out any moisture and the olive oil conditions the wood. Good luck Kim.
Use auto compound. Apply and let dry. Then take 000 steel wool. You can get it in the dollar store. Then very lightly take polish off. When finished polish the table
I hear mayonnaise does the trick as well. Probably very similar to the salt and olive oil. Mayonnaise has some salt in it so maybe it works a similar way. Good luck!
You could try making a paste with baking soda and water. Rub gently in a circular motion then wipe away. Another option is fine steel wool - 0000 - and lemon oil.
Restor-a-finish is an amazing product - it should do the trick. Available lots of places including here: https://amzn.to/33VEIsg
I will second restore a finish!
Depending on what caused the burn, you may have to refinish the floor. I'm thinking that you've tried techniques that will help if the finish is burned. If the damage went below the finish - that means sanding off the burned material until you are left with clean wood.
I think it's going to have to be refinished. Not much else you can do.
You will have to lightly sand it out and then try to re-stain or varathane to the desired color.
I think the only thing you can do is to refinish/ restain only
Thanks everyone!
