Hello Kim! Most of the time when you use chalk paint you don't have to do much prep. However, this may be one time you should do a little bit of prep. If your veneer has a clear coat over the veneer you should do some light sanding to knock down and dull the clear finish. You don't have to get all the way to the wood, just dull the surface. Then I would clean it well, and use a primer like Kilz before I used the chalk paint. This should eliminate any bleed through and will help the chalk paint adhere better and be more durable. You will want to finish your chalk painted piece with either a wax or a water based poly.
Gk has it. Use either 220 grit sandpaper or a green kitchen scrubby to dull the finish. Wipe off with a damp cloth.
Hi Kim. I have painted two (and use chalk paint all of the time.) Funny enough, with both these wardrobes one I used Fusion Mineral Paint and Chalkboard paint and the other I used milk paint. Chalk Paint is wonderful though and after giving the doors a light sand you can just want right over it. Don't forget to seal it with either a clear coat or wax. Have fun!
