We turned out kitchen table into an island...super easy. https://www.exquisitelyunremarkable.com/2013/06/decorating-cheats-farmhouse-table.html
Jacque....Can you send a picture so we can get a better idea and maybe some help? Thanks
The height is typically 36”.
It needs to be scrubbable not only on the top, but the sides.
Some cities enforce having an electrical outlet in a kitchen island. It will need to be on the side, not the top.
I farmhouse table might work well.

You could certainly turn a desk into a kitchen island. Just figure out what you need it to do, what you need it to hold, and research from there. Try Hometalk's search bar on the top left for ideas or give Google a whirl.
