Have your kid decorate and paint the outside so it is their "creation"
I would let your kids paint it or color it! Or you could paint it to match your room

Choose a cardboard box the approximate size you'd like the toy box to be. You can cut a lid from one side of the cardboard box to make a hinged lid. Spray adhesive spray and apply fabric of your choice. The toy box can be as decorative as you like. If you want it to disappear, you may make a shallow box that might slide under a bed or a sofa.
