How to Make a Diy Wood Crate Side Table

I have had this wood crate sitting in my junk stash from one of our Junkin trips just waiting for the perfect project. When the hubby started complaining that he needed a table beside his chair this wood crate popped into my mind. A wood crate side table would be perfect! Not too large or small but just the right size for his remotes and a cup of coffee.

First I washed the crate with hot soapy water and left outside to dry. Wanting it to look more aged I added some of my diy aging solution and left to dry.

Afterwards I dry brushed some white chalk paint onto the wood crate. Leaving quite a bit of the aged wood showing through.

Next came the stenciling. I stenciled parts off of several different stencils trying to make it resemble and old vintage crate. After that I used Mod Podge on the top part of the table (which is one of the sides) plus both ends. This will help seal and protect the stenciling.

Lastly I flipped my do-it-yourself wood crate side table over and glued on pieces of scrap wood where the hairpin legs will go. This will make the bottom of the crate side table (which is actually one of the sides) sturdier. Those pieces were aged and painted like the crate. The Hairpin legs were added last by marking off and pre-drilling holes before attaching with wood screws. Pre-drilling the holes will help to keep the wood from splitting.

Once the legs are attached flip the crate over and you have a nice cute diy wood crate side table. Easy peasy!

I have my late grandparents old 6 drawer dresser (about hip height I'm 5'5) and the desk / hutch type thing. Oh and the large mirror meant for the dresser.

I'd love to bring it back to life with a very unique look. I was considering chalk paint (think that's what it's called) replacing the drawers with 2 sliding style cabinet doors or 4 regular ones, but what I'm seeing I can't explain .... Open to any suggestions
