Antique Window With a Papier-mâché Deer
I love buying old antique window frames and making them over. It definitely gives a wall a gorgeous view. This time I picked up a Papier-mâché deer head. It was my own personal preference as to how I wanted to paint it. I wanted to keep it more simpler so I only used two different colors which were white and an off white.
I started out with a cleaned antique window frame. I kept the white paint that was previously on it in tact.
Here is my deer papier-mâché piece I found at a thrift store. It was brown to start out with. I did not get a before picture, sorry!
I used Rustoleum spray paint in white first and covered the whole head that would be seen. I let it dry for about 15 minutes. Then I lightly sprayed Rustoleum spray paint in Chiffon cream on top of the white but scattered to give it different dimension.
Note: Do all the spraying outdoors. I use a box to prevent over spray on the ground.
I picked up these hooks at my local Dollar General. They are an off brand to command brand. I actually like them a lot more to be perfectly honest. I centered this exactly where I wanted to hang my deer. Use your Discretion when you do yours.
Here you see how he hooks up perfectly in the center.
This is the underside so you can see what the deer head color looked like before I sprayed it. You have the option of painting him any way you desire. You can even add lashes if you want to add some more dimension.
I wanted to add a simple floral piece to the center to take away from the hook showing.
I twisted the wire so it would nicely hang and not fall off once it was on the wall. It worked beautifully covering up the hook.
Note you could add more flowers and colors to make her really stand out. I was going for subtle.
Here is my finished product on my wall. I used wire and hooks to make sure it would go on sturdy into a stud. These old frames are very heavy so keep that in mind.
