I have read two “regrets” posts over the years because they did not dilute the paint, applied it too thick and didn’t work it in. It ruined the pliable or elastic nature of fabric and made of hard and crusty.
To Kim’s point, not every fabric can be painted.
I prefer buying automotive spray dye for car seats. It works, but you’re limited to about 10 colors, which isn’t a problem if you want to do stencil or stripe details.
