How can I make over this curio cabinet?

Hi Angela, I know you could chalk paint it a lighter and cheerier color, and that would change it up really nicely. Keep the glass shelving but put a peel and stick finish on it in a color or pattern you prefer. You could leave it doorless, or you could try to build some wooden doors for it, but I think it would look great without them.

Take the doors off. Buy a piece of barnwood paneling and cut that to fit over the glass shelving. Leaving some of the glass on the sides will allow light to naturally enter in sides. Spray paint the metal a country blue or green depending on your decor and what works with what you have. That would give it a country look. Run as many electrical cords as possible behind this unit. Command hangers make excellent cord holders.

It looks like the frame is metal; you might have a tricky time adding doors unless you have tools to machine the metal. Maybe consider a country style worn crate to slide into it.

To construct custom fit wooden doors for this unit, you are going to need a table saw. Do you have one already?

I would spray paint the metal in a light, bright color. Consider leaving the doors off. Any replacement doors that are attached in the same way are going to be a problem like the original ones. Bins or baskets that slide in would give you a more country feel.

Maybe leave top open and put an expansion rod with a curtain of your choosing, on lower part ,,, , burlap is very trendy now

I found that by painting the inside of the shelves a nice glossy white (the sides and back) that it naturally made the area somewhat lighter. It also made cleanup easier. If you got a motion sensing light that would be a nice touch. That way when the doors were opened it would automatically come on.
