Take a potato and slice off one end. Then jam the potato into the broken bulb and twist. Bulb will come out.

Using the half potato method, first make sure you have turned the power off at the breaker.

Turn off the power.. duh.. Take a raw potatoe and shove it in the socket.. then twist. You can spray some coconut oil into the socket first to loosen is up. Then I will try needle nose pliers.. It will work!

    Hi Pam,

Yes, turn off the power to the socket, you can use the potato and twist it out, also a bar of soap works too.

Make sure the power is off. Be sure to wear protective eyewear. Put a Piece of newspaper beneath the lamp. Wear Leather Gloves. Use a pair of Needle Nose Pliers to gently unscrew the Bulb.

  • We have used the potato technique before, but definitely make sure the power is off and you wear some kind of eyewear. Good luck!

Make sure the power is off and cut a potato in half and push it on the broken bulb and turn it and it should loosen.

This happens to use sometimes, my husband twists the metal with pliers until it gives. Next time you can spray the metal tip with some WB40 to help it to not get stuck (or don't twist it too tightly in).
