I need to cut (new sheet) of corrugated tin … the kind/style used on roofs long ago. I have NO luck with making a nice clean cut using either tin snips or jigsaw. Any other suggestions for tools to try?

Purchase a metal cutting blade for a skillsaw. That is what my husband uses and it works great.

    Step 1

Lay the piece of corrugated sheet metal on a flat surface and use a tape measure to determine where it needs to be cut. Draw a line down the length or width of the sheet metal using a pencil to mark the cut line. You can cut corrugated metal both parallel to the ridges, as well as across the ridges.

    Step 2

Hold a magnet up to the sheet metal to determine if it is steel or aluminum. If the magnet is attracted to the sheet metal, then it is made of steel. If not, then it is made of aluminum.

    Step 3

Place a pair of straight edge snips at the end of the pencil line, if the sheet metal is steel. Use a pair of tin snips at the line if the metal is aluminum. Both of these tools are basically industrial strength scissors.

    Step 4

Cut along the pencil line with the straight edge shears or the tin snips until you have cut the enter piece of corrugated sheet metal.

Hi so sorry you are having a hard time cutting corrugated tin. Hope this is helpful. What is the best way to cut corrugated tin?

There are several ways to cut corrugated metal. Use a circular saw to make long, straight cuts in thicker sheets of metal. Use a pair of snips if you want to avoid power tools altogether and are working with thinner, more flexible metal or need to make curved cuts.Sep 6, 2019

When I was trying to cut some I ended up using a Sawzall. Wear leather gloves, long sleeves, and goggles. It is very sharp metal.

I also asked my wonderful husband what you should use. He told me to tell you to use a hand-held grinder with a cutting disc. It is so important to wear safety gear for this project. To help cut straight line use a chalk line. I got lucky the day I met my husband. He's a great guy and I love him so much.

Maybe the tin snips you are using are not the right kind. I cut corrugated tin with them all the time. There are left , right and straight cuts so make sure you are using the right ones.
