Scrapbooking Papers

It was a spin off of another project, you see I already had these supplies out in use and one thing leads into another with crafting for me. I mean why put everything away when this is so much fun and let's face it I'm not going anywhere in all of this snow!

Torn Papers

Would these random scraps have given you any creative ideas? Immediately I saw a Winter scene, snowdrifts or a snowbank...do you see it?

You see previously I was mixing colors to get a lavender shade but the first mixture was too dark and my painted paper ended up with more blue undertones. I fixed the paint shade, completed my other picture and as I was tidying and tearing up some paper scraps, that lightbulb flicked on in my head!

I used a 5 x7" wooden frame, the paper scraps, a backdrop of the boo-boo blue watercolor paper cut to fit, some tiny driftwood pieces, rub on decals pebbles and seaglass. I used Tacky glue for the paper part and E6000 to adhere glass, pebbles and coral to the glass frame

Layering

I alternated the two types of torn paper and glued the strips along the bottom, this would create the illusion of layers of snow banks.

Cut to Fit

Once your layers are set in place, trim your edges to the frame size.

Background Finished

Background completed and dry, can you visualize snowdrifts now?

Now comes the fun part, finding the rounded seaglass pieces for the father and son snowmen! Then I wanted them to be warm so the head garments came out, you'll never guess what they are?

I often find Jergens or Ponds cold cream crock shards at the beach so one became the dad's hat! See the treads where the lid would be screwed on? The son has codfish earbone earmuffs, pretty fashionable don't you think? Yes, they are a thing....the proper name is called otholiths and I've used them in several of my other craft projects for various things

Pebbles and Driftwood

Sticks and stones? What do they have to do with a Winter scene?

Shovel Selection

The guys needed snow shovels! I fiddled with different stones until I got the size and shape that seemed the best fit... to my thinking anyhow.

The eyes were diamond painting beads that I have an abundance of, glued with E6000 Glue and put in place using an old pair of tweezers.

See they are as cute as a button! Which is what I painted on with a skewer stick end and some white, multi surface paint...buttons! I also painted an earmuffs band on the boy to connect the two sides.

But something was missing?.? The guys needed snow to shovel, what could I make snow out of? Sea Coral! Cha-ching! I used the metallic pearl to give it a little shimmer, which real snow has and glued the small chunks that I had crumbled in place with E6000 glue.

I used the applicator stick provided with the decals to apply the saying directly onto the paper insert. I have to do this late into the project so I knew where the best placement of the words would be. Once the plastic goes opaque you can gently lift and remove it and your phrase is set! I reassembled the frame now that the backdrop was completed.

Nailed it! It was white, it had texture, it was chunky and they could fit it into their darling, little shovels! I was so excited on this one because it came to me at the last minute and very early in the morning at that!  

Aren't they adorable? I might even learn to like Winter...after I stay inside and make a few more of these! Maybe Spring will come early? Who am I kidding? Keep my head down and stick to the crafting my body says! I hope this has inspired you to have a little fun using whatever it is that you have to create a Winter scene!
