A chalk-painted upcycled dresser makeover to an old school dresser that was quality made but sore on the eyes using chalky paint from DecoArt.
I started by taking the dresser apart, and removing the hardware from the drawers and setting the drawers aside from the dresser.
Clean dresser and drawers.
There was one part that needed repair in the corner, so I glued and clamped it before doing my second coat for a more finished and complete look.
Apply the second coat. And once it is all dried, cover/top with wax or polyurethane.

Beautiful. You did a great job. Love the color. It was dated and you gave it new life.

Frequently asked questions
Have a question about this project?
I have my parents dresser and armoire 70 years old but they don’t make them like that anymore. It’s Whitney Birch in great shape but I would love to chalk paint. My question is do I have to sand before if I am going to do a dark chalk color. The problem is they’re really heavy and movers don’t even like them because they’re so heavy so to move this outside to sand would be a nightmare.
Can you use chalk on it after the poly coat?
How long do you wait before you put the polyurethane
