My inspiration for this farmhouse mason jar vase came from my favorite home decor store - Kirkland's. I swear I could live in that place if they'd let me.

Anyway, they have a floral vase that they made from a mason jar for $12.99. I didn't really want to pay that price for something that I was pretty sure I could make myself.

Looking at the vase I knew all it took to make it was a mason jar, some paint, twine, and some faux flowers. And since I already had all of these items on hand, I decided to go ahead and make one!

Let me show you how I did it.

Grab a mason jar and clean it up really well. I got this mason jar from Goodwill a while back so it needed cleaning up. Why are things there so dusty?

After cleaning your mason jar, give it a coat or two of paint. I used craft paint for this project because it was raining outside and needed to paint indoors. However, my preferred method for painting glass is spray paint.

If you are using craft paint, rough the glass up a little with sandpaper. This just helps the paint stick a little better.

I gave the jar two coats of paint with a sponge brush since I was using craft paint.

Set the jar aside and let it dry for a little while.

After the mason jar has dried, add some jute twine around the top. I wrapped the twine around the top of the jar twice, then tied it into a bow in the front. You can cut away any strays if you don't like those sticking out.

Next, just add the flowers to your mason jar.

I used these cattails from Dollar Tree that I had purchased last Spring.

That's it! Now your farmhouse mason jar vase is complete!

Will you be making one for your spring decor? If so I'd love to see it! Head over to my blog to find out how to tag me in your project. I'd love to see it!

Also on my blog I have a picture comparing my mason jar vase to Kirkland's. Give it a look and let me know what you think!

Would it be okay to paint it on the inside? If not should I put a coat of matte mod podge or would that make it look less genuine?
