    Yes, I would think so. Add a cushion that coordinates with your drapery, rug and spread. As far as painting it, depends on the color of your other furniture....I could see it painted white, which would be very pretty.

    Hello there,

    What a nice bench! I would paint it to match with your decoration colour (left smooth or antiqued ) and then make or buy either a slab cushion or 2 x cushions for the seat, and 2 x cushions for the back plus cushions with arm flapovers (secure with velcro under arm. Don't stint on the cushions, especially if you want opulence! You could also use the fabric to stick into the panels with Mod Podge! Enjoy the process, It's going to look great!

    You could always chalk paint it in an accent color for your room. It is easy to do;

    Hi Jamie,

    I love your bench! We have a bench in our hallways where you enter the house and I love that we can store winter boots in that bench. Your's is definitely worthy of an upgrade to the bedroom. What a wonderful place to store extra blankets and other treasures. I agree with the others. Definitely you can paint it. First clean it well, then lightly sand all surfaces. Clean again or wipe it all down with a tack cloth so that there is no sanding dust left on the surface. Then you can paint it any color you like. If you like the distressed look, you can paint the layers more than one color then sand off the top coat where it would naturally wear off. Many people like chalk paint for the distressed look.

    If you don't want that look, I'd suggest a good cabinet and trim paint which would be designed to wear better. Use a brush on the legs, arms & other wood parts, but use a roller for the flat seat and front/sides. To give it an extra tough surface, you could also add a clear sealer in the finish of your choice.

    Creating a cushion for the top would add a nice homey bedroom look to your bench. Obviously, choose colors that you like, but, if you're like me, you like to change colors occasionally. In that case, I'd paint it a neutral color (my fav is white), then use your favorite color for the cushion. Using a fabric with multiple colors will allow you to easily change your room decor without redoing the cushion. The final touch could be pillows in your current favorite color or a soft smallish blanket to drape over the back and onto the cushion. This will make a beautiful addition to your bedroom and you could easily change the color. :) Wishing you the best.

    Jamie....Yes it can be painted as used as you would like. Chalk paint will eliminate sanding...but you can sand, prime and use other paints as well..Good luck

    You definitely can. We bought one very similar to this one for a toy box. I scuffed with fine steel wool and cleaned with denatured alcohol. Then spray painted. That was 3 years ago, it's still like new. I used the Lowe's brand spray paint.

    If it were my bench I would remove the backing and sidearms for a clean unobstructed look. Padded seat could be nice. Hope this helps.

    I would just paint it and add pretty pillows and maybe. Seat cushion

  • Hi Jamie - Your bench is GORGEOUS! If you don't like the color, you can always paint it. And some pretty pillows will be a great way to liven it up. Enjoy! Hugs, Holly

    Pick a color the will make it stand out from the foot board of your bed but goes with your room color. Chalk paint is so easy to do and usually requires no prep work other than cleaning off dirt and grime. You can add a bit of wax for protection. Add a throw blanket to the back or a cushion to sit on. Catalogs like Plow and Hearth and Improvements carry long cushions for benches if you do not sew.

    There should be no reason why you cannot paint it and even add a cushion on it if you would like that look.

    I get that everyone is telling you to paint it to soften the look. Personally, I would get some nice fabric, staple gun it to the front part of the seat back. Get some batting for cushion and basically upholster the back portion. This will soften the lines of the bench and give it more of a comfy feel. Placing at the foot of the bed, it will blend better and not hurt if accidentally kicked during the night.
