Behind the Sofa Charging Table.

I wanted something to put behind my sofa against the wall as a table or shelf for charging phones or what not, I didn't need to be pretty or fussy but that plan got side railed.

I bought two 2 by 4's at the Home Depot and they cut them for me to be 25 inches long. I wanted the height to be just below the window frame and not interfere with that. I lightly sanded the wood and held them together with painter's tape until the glue was dried.

I used this glue to put two pieces of the wood together. I needed to make it so my cats wouldn't be able to get behind the sofa and the width of the 2 pieces of wood was exactly right.

Cats knock things off of shelves. I had to replant this due to the naughty Sir Ernest Shackleton. You'll see him in a few pics.

I gave the wood 2 coats of craft paint in plain white. I could have been done here but I decided to fancy it up a bit in case I ever used this piece somewhere else and could be seen.

I bought 2 yards of this sheer fabric at Joann Fabrics for super cheap. Coupons, and an extra 20% off my purchase. It cost $6.00.

I used glossy Mod Podge to adhere the sheer fabric to the wood. I was thrilled at how easy it was to do and how well it worked, the edges even stayed down with the Mod Podge. I let each one dry before moving on to the next.

attaching the legs these parts and using itty bitty washers because I was worried that the screws might be too long and go clean through the piece of shelving I bought for the top.

I bought this piece of shelving at the Home Depot and they cut it in half for me to the right depth.

I measured where I wanted to the openings for the chargers to be and marked it on the piece of shelving.

I cut the circular holes out. 3 in all.

Now to add the legs on the bottom.

I added the felt pads to protect my floor.

time to put it behind the sofa.

It's just right in height, doesn't interfere with the window and I'm sure will be a place where my cats will sit when they figure it out.

The famous Antarctic explorer, Sir Ernest Shackleton. He loves his Ikea rats and carries them all over the house, gracing us with them as gifts. Ernest is one of five of our cats.

the shelf was 13.98. the two 2 by 4's were $2.48 each, the fabric was $6.00, I lost my receipt but the screws and washers were about $10.00. I'm sure this would have taken me less time but I let the glue dry for 24 hours and the mod Podge dry for a couple hours between working with it. My husband was quite happy when I was no longer taking over the entire kitchen floor with this. I bought the Mod Podge at a special sale at Joann Fabrics, if you were at the door super early, you got a special coupon, mine was 70% off one item not on sale so naturally I bought the largest container of Mod Podge they sell.
