I have three large "square" mirrors that I love and don't know how to use them. I want to put them on an empty wall over my living room sofa. I don't know if two or three looks best. I know the rule of thumb is group in odd numbers, however, three large mirrors may be over kill. I'm thinking in this case two may be better. Would you hang them evenly, off center, diagonal, diamond shape, or square shape? I stress out and hate putting holes in my walls, Please Help!!!

Odd numbers always look best to the eye! If you do two, i'd do them evenly.

I'd measure your couch and your mirrors and draw it out on paper to scale so you can see if the three mirrors will fit and how it would look to have three mirrors over the couch. I would hang them evenly over the couch whether you do 2 or 3.

You have to keep in mind you will have to put in wall anchors or attach to studs which is the most secure way to hang them. Find out where your wall studs are first before you decide.

Tinna: it really depends on how large they are... if their total width exceeds that of the couch, then go with only two. In either case, change them evenly.

Hello. Creating paper template cut outs—to the size of your mirrors can help you form an idea of how it would look. That might be a good suggestion to try to see what seems balanced and comfortable for the situation

I would hang them in a row, all three of them equal distance apart. that will be the most pleasing to the eye.

For three mirrors. Hang one centered on the sofa. Then hang the other two with even spacing between then. For two mirrors. Locate the center of the sofa. Then hang the mirrors on each side of the center with a space in between the two. The spacing is based on what looks good to your eye. You can use cardboard or newspaper on the wall same size as the mirrors as templates for where you want to hang the mirrors.

  • What is the size of each mirror? What is the length of your sofa? I did 3 mirrors over my sofa in the past and used three. Now I have some artwork with a mirror on each side. What a photo for a visual?

  • two could look fine. Try it out, take pictures and share with us

What I would do is have friends or family hold the mirrors in place so you can see how they would look on the wall, it will only take a few minutes and you'll have your answer.

I am with you all the way when it comes to putting nail holes in the wall, a major stress!

Anyway, they have to be mounted into the studs or wall anchors so they won't fall.

Have you considered framing the mirrors if they are not already framed? It really adds a nice touch to them.

I would do them side by side centered above the sofa
