Margaret: Martha always has good answers
You can paint them, cover with removable wallpaper, change the material out, remove it and add chicken wire, or just leave the wire frame.
Some papers are less tolerant of heat than others and if you have LED’s or CFL’s, you’ll be safe.
You can paint them or cover them with new fabric. :)
What I do is remove the material cover and replace it with mesh from the fabric store, then use it as a food cover at picnics, this keeps the flies off.
Lots of ideas from other Hometalkers
Oftentimes you can remove the current material on your shade and bring it down to the wire frame. From there, you can do pretty much anything. Add new fabric, beads, whatever you want!
Spray painting is a great option if it’s a metal or paper shade. I sometimes spray the inside white and colors on the outside. The white Interior helps with extra illumination.
