I am putting up a backsplash using a sheet of new corrugated metal. What is the best type of screw to use for attaching this to the studs on the wall? I need something that absolutely won't rust! Thank you.

Hi there, sheet metal screws come in stainless steel and include a little rubber washer. I'll attach a photo. They're made for steel so they should be just the ticket!

Maybe ask your local hardware person this question or someone at Lowe's or Home Depot who are familiar with different screws.

Stainless steel screws. Pre-drill the holes and then clear coat the holes with a spar of marine poly.

You know that every cut edge on galvanized steel will rust and so I’d either clear coat them or judiciously apply silver enamel paint on the edges.

Stainless screws will not rust and galvanized ones are treated so they won't rust. Galvanized screws go thru a prossess to mak them resistant to rust. Zinc coating on nails treated in this way acts as a sacrificial anode, and will decay before the metal inside.

  • I would choose something that matched the color of the backsplash so they don't stand out too much. You have a choice of stainless steel or galvanized...but I wouldn't want to choose something that stood out too much, unless you want that to be a part of the design.

You should get the kind with washers that are designed for metal roofing. They are for outside, can be purchased in matching colors, and the washer gasket will prevent liquids from splashing and seeping into the wall behind the screws.

The rubber washer on roofing screws are there to seal the holes to prevent leaks. You really don't need those. Just use standard stainless steel screws. Won't rust or react with the zinc coating on the corrugated metal. Any others will react with the zinc before the even get a chance to rust. They will just corrode.

There is a special attachment technology to ensure that the roof of corrugated boarding was durable and flawlessly operated for decades. In no case do not use conventional nails for this purpose. Water will easily seep into the holes; after a month, these places will show signs of rust, and the sheets will be damp. For a modern metal roof, now produce professional roofing screws - with a rubber seal, which, shrinking, completely blocks the path of any moisture. You can buy such screws in the online store scrooz.com.au. Choose only quality materials for repairs.

Yes use the screws with the rubber gasket. Hubby uses those for anything outside since these help keep water from making it's way in and water can cause a lot of bad damage.
