How can I make wallpaper using snippets?

Over many years, I have saved kind handwritten notes and cards from friends. I want to cut scraps of them, overlap them, and "wallpaper" a small wall in the bathroom. What products to use to prep the notes and the wall? Being a bathroom, I do not want the steam to loosen them. Ideas? Also, the notes and cards are different thicknesses. Is Mod Podge a good choice initially to adhere them to the wall and use a thicker clear product to smooth the wall? I do not want a lumpy/bumpy wall.

Diana: you may want to put them in a large frame instead of on the wall.

I think mod podge is a great idea. You can seal with a poly that wont yellow. You should post this as a project.

You guys are awesome!! I am going to combine your ideas. I will get a somewhat nondescript wallpaper which can be stripped easily off the wall. I will Mod Podge the snippets, overlapping them, after the wallpaper is in place and seal with a poly that does not yellow!!!

Now to decide whether to use the nondescript wallpaper on the whole wall or just a strip about 1/3 up. I'm leaning away from the "banner" because of the number of notes I have.

I could possibly put a peel-and-stick "bookcase" as pictured here and scatter the notes on some of the shelves, but I'm thinking that would be too busy. I'm still leaning toward the wall, and rereading them when "sitting.". 😊😊😊

THANK YOU FOR YOUR IDEAS AND FOR NOT LAUGHING AT MY VISION! 😊

I have also seen this done on wooden trays or cutting boards for decor. Handwritten notes and recipes are awesome. Good luck to you

Thank you for mentioning recipes. I do not expect to move from here until I go to The Home, however, I have decided to put some nondescript peel off wallpaper and add the notes to that. Since you mentioned recipes, I have another place in the kitchen or I will put the recipes that I dearly love, given to me by people could have passed away now.

This community of questions and answers is incredible. Thank you so much.

What a great idea! Any of the suggestions would work. I like the idea of a removable panel so you could take it with you, if you move. Hope you post your project!

I would not recommend placing your "snippets" directly on the wall. Why not purchase a large plastic mat or even a large canvas print from a thrift store and paint it white, then adhere the notes to that and poly over it to seal. Perhaps you don't plan to move soon but that way you could place the "art" in another area at some point in time. As a Realtor, I once showed a home and the bathroom was "papered" with lottery tickets. The buyer did not like it, and actually almost didn't buy the home, knowing how much work it was going to be to remove.

  • I've seen this done, but placed on a foam board and and then framed in case they ever more. Maybe a consideration here, too. Good luck!
