I recommend going to You Tube for tutorials on wreath making. They have tutorials for everything under the sun. They will give you step-by-step instructions.
Searching youtube for wreaths of your design aesthetic might be recommended.

There are too many possibilities to even think of. Grapevine, foam, cardboard, wire forms from the dollar store, straw forms. You can wire items on,glue them on or tie them on. could you be more specific of what you want to achieve? Type in "wreath" on the top left of this page under search DIY ideas.
