Hi Kaitlyn, How good are the cabinets? Is it something you would want to put a lot of work into them? Are they particle board? It is really hard to tell from the picture. If it is all good wood(not particle board) and you wouldn't mind putting work into it, then check out my dumpster ready dresser that I redid. It was awful...peeling veneer....falling apart. Hello. It looks like it’s a very raw and worn down on the bottom edges. perhaps even particleboard, a compress composite wood that will not take to standing and painting. In this example I am not sure that can be primed and sealed to become physical attractive.
It might be best to consider building a wooden frame around each door and then painting that to hide the surface defect of the wood that appears destroyed. Redesigning the cabinet doors to be shaker style. The easiest thing would be just to buy new doors not sure how that budget friendly that would be. I agree with Vimarhonor, this is particlebeoard and does not do too well in high wear cabinetry. You might try a place like a Restore, they have lots of cabinets cheap that would probably help you and your budget. Take measurements.
I agree the doors look like particle board, you can try using polyurethane on the raw sections (use several light coats) and then prime and paint. Good luck
Looks like the previous person loved to wet mop the floors a lot and just left them to dry!!
Make sure no loose particles are lingering on the wood, and it is smooth. If rough to the touch, rub down. If you think you would like to try to keep the cabinets as they are and try to fix the bases, you could try using a wood stain to make a match. Not sure if the surface veneer has been rubbed away or whether it is just the colour that has gone!! You could try Scratch repair or Scratch cover on the spots to see if they disappear. If the Veneer has gone then you will need to completely rub them down and refinish ( stain or Paint), or cover them with Contact.........Best wishes.
Hi Kaitlyn, you can gently sand the rough spots and patch with a filler like wood filler or even drywall filler, use a wide spatula and as little as possible filler, remove the hardware and clean it, clean the cabinets with TSP or a vinegar mixture and make sure they are clean and dry, put a coat of primer on. I love chalk paint and it is very forgiving for cabinets like mine and yours. Hope this video helps you out, ps, make sure you seal them once you finish

sand them really well. Prime them with a high quality primer and paint with an enamel. You’ll be so happy you did!

I would sand them down at the bottom then paint them with Fusion Mineral Paint. There is no prep or sealer required.
Yes, just sand them down and get it smooth, then paint. Just try and get the peeled part smooth with the other part
Sand it down, clean, prime, then paint!
