How do I paint over wall board?

Hello Emily,

Do you want it to all be one colour? Use a brush or a roller. You will still have the outline of the underlying design show through, or do you just want to change the colour of the tiles? Use an Artist brush and paint tiles individually, or use a sponge to do it. That way you can change the look in anyway you like to suit! Have fun.......

Wait is this in a shower? I wouldn't fill it with anything if that is the case. You can paint it but make sure you sand beforehand.

Hello again,

First remove the black Gunge with either Wet Wipe, then , WD-40 or Goo Gone.

NB: You will not be able to loose the design by putting anything over it. The : only way would be to remove it all and start again with Ceramic tiles etc.

Then Prime with ESP (Easy all Surface Preparation). Use either Semi Gloss or Eggshell paint and cover the entire lot. Best wishes.

First of all, this is not wallboard. What you have are tiled and grouted walls - in a bathroom from the looks of it. Huge difference. No time like the present to learn about different types of walls. You can paint it, but it will be a process, and not something that is completed in a few hours. Here are some sites to help you out.

Yup it's wallboard. I know them as bath panels. Hardboard with a fake porcelain coating made to look like tile. You can use Rustoleum or Homax tub and tile paint kits.

William is right that this is moisture resistant panelling, sometimes called bathroom wallboard. Designs made to look like tile and grout are commonly used in bathrooms. Overall pattern choices, like the second picture, are often seen in travel trailers.

Uee a good primer first

You could paint over it but if it’s in the shower it will come off

The most important step is prep! Prime with an oil based primer first!

Hi Emily, I have the exact same wall board and I’m curious to know what you have tried. I’ve thought about wall papering over but considering it’s in a bathroom I’m afraid it will peel.
