Easy Painted Honeycomb Decorations

I scored big last summer when I found a bag of honeycomb bells at the thrift store for $1. These were perfect for decorating a bridal shower I hosted at my house last weekend. The bells were pink and white and just lovely, but I wanted to add a little something more to them.

I love honeycomb decorations. There is something so fun about them, but they can be a bit pricey. Keep your eyes open for them in thrift stores and snag them up as soon as you see them.

I added regular craft paint to a cup and quite a bit of water. I wanted the paint super watery so that it would sink into the paper easily. Hold the honeycomb and go start dripping paint into all the edges.

The more paint you add, the better. After the paint is added, open the honeycomb carefully and secure with the metal clips that are attached to it. You want to be careful you don't rip the paper, but need to open it when wet, otherwise it will dry together and tear when opened.

Here's a picture comparing a honeycomb with paint and without. It's not a huge difference, but it's pretty & subtle.

When all the honeycombs are dry, you can start decorating with them.

I tied a some onto a piece of ruffle garland with a bow and love how they look.

Tie a bunch tighter on a piece of yarn and hang on a chair or front door.

There are so many fun ways to decorate with these. I'm thinking I'll turn them into a wreath for Christmas next... what do you think?

I love how all the decorations for the bridal shower turned out. This faux cement sign was also a big hit at the party.
