The "found" look is so popular in decor right now. I saw Jacidaily on Instagram do this, and knew I needed to do it to.

The "found" look is when something has an old look to it. It's really popluar right now, but also very expensive. Why pay hundreds of dollars, when you can turn a lamp, mirror or frame into that eye catching trend for less. Watch as I transform this old blue ceramic lamp into a gorgeous found look for less $$

Find your lamp, mine was thrifted

Try to a lamp you already have, or, go thrifting. The whole purpose of this is that you're going to save money, so keep that in mind when looking.

My lamp was only $5.99 at my local thrift store.

Find your dirt
Next, Find Your Dirt

We drove to a nearby new home construction area. Lots of dirt to choose from. 😅

Spray Paint the Lamp
Now Spray Paint the Lamp

I used black spray paint because that wad how I saw it done. I guess you could use any colour, but the look I wanted called for black. After it was completely sprayed, I let it dry for approximately 40 minutes. Make sure to check for any tacky wet shots spots before you rub on the dirt.

Wet the dirt
Next, Add a Little Water to the Dirt

Add water to the dirt to make it wet enough to rub onto the lamp.

Start rubbing
Start Rubbing the Dirt

Put your gloves on and start rubbing the dirt in the back of the lamp. I wasn't sure about how much pressure to use when rubbing. This way if I didn't like my first attempt, it wouldn't show in the front at least.

When rubbing the dirt use a horizontal back and forth wiping motion. Try not to change your direction in order to keep any lines consistent.

Let it dry about 15 minutes
Now Just Let It Dry

I gave it about 15 minutes before I started to wipe away the dirt.

Voila!
Your "Found" Lamp

This just saved you hundreds of dollars compared to the Found Lamps in the high end stores.

Found Lamp made with dirt
It was so fun, I made another one

You can do this found look on anything (vases, lamps, mirrors).

Goodluck, let me know if you try it.

You didn’t put anything in it after the dirt was rubbed on and wiped down? Nothing to seal it? What keeps the dirt from coming off when you dust or clean it?
