Dates slate tile and a dark wood vanity made this bathroom lack luster.
DIY Bathroom Refresh
A dated bathroom get a dramatic makeover using mainly paint. Painted slate, painted faucet, painted vanity, and a sponge wall make a brand new space with minimum investment.
The tile was lightly sanded and cleaned with Krud Kutter. Everything in the bathroom got a coat of zinser primer.
Paint the slate
The slate was painted with Rustoleum chalk paint.
Seal the tile
The slate tile was sealed with a dark wax. The wax gave the tile a natural feel, so it no longer looked painted. This will be added periodically to maintain the look of the floor.
Update faucet and granite.
I painted the faucet and hardware gold and added Shellac to seal it. To give the granite more of a soapstone look, I sanded the polished shine off with an orbital sander.
Vanity got a few coats of Juniper tree paint from Ace Hardware.
We removed the frame from the existing mirror and added a shelf. The new shelf was spray painted gold as well.
The final steps were to create a sponge wall and bring in the decor items. This was such a fun, easy makeover!
