How can I transition tiling a floor over a step?

I have a bathroom 20ftx12ft with a 3ft long stepson one side that is 3 and half inc high from one side to other, looking to tile over ceramic floor how would I make this 3ft transition smoothly Thanks JIM h

If you post a picture, it might be easier to say. But in general, it sounds like you might want to tile the 3' area as well. Unless you can purchase a tile threshold that works with it.
I agree with Kathy, please post a picture, having trouble visualizing your bathroom. Where is the step exactly and what is it near? Is it between rooms? Or a step to a tub?
If you tile over tile the 3 + inch transition will only get worse. It will almost become an actual step. I guess you can treat it as such.

I also agree that a picture could help us a lot! if its three inches like a slope you could tile it over no problem and just create perhaps a threshold of smaller tile?
the sub floor is too high to make it all one level you would have to tear the step out and try to make the transition from there here is some info
