I want to make little birdhouses covered in birdseed
Hello. That’s an interesting question. Not sure-I might consider melting down a suit cake.
Peggy: a suet cake (melted) is a great idea!
Thank you. I have a granddaughter that I need to keep busy. I know I saw a paint on homemade paste on line.
Hi Peggy: You can use peanut butter or, if it's not really hot out, lard. What I do is melt the lard and put bird seed, dog food (yes, birds eat meat) bread, whatever is around that they might eat, and mix it all together. It gets really, really thick! Then, I pour it into those dollar store aluminum trays that I have put on a cookie sheet for stability, and let it cool until it gets hard. When it's cool enough to spread and stay, you can stick it to your birdhouse or, once it's cool, you can cut out shapes to make a bird house, like a Gingerbread house. Any time it's really hot out, any type of lard will start to melt. As an alternative, you can roll pine cones in the mix while it's melted. Sounds like a neat project. Good luck
Another option might be peanut butter.
When I was a kid we used peanut butter to attach birdseed to pine cones haha
You can also cheat and use the suet bars for birds sold in pet area. I keep mine in freezer until I set it out.
The same way as homemade suet, just smear it on.
I've seen many people just use peanut butter!
Edible Birdseed “Glue”3/4 cup flour1/2 cup water1 envelope Knox unflavored gelatin3 tbsp. corn syrup
Thank you. This sounds like the one I saw somewhere on line.
Peggy, how considerate of you to help our feathered friends! Some people use peanut butter to make birdseed balls. I would imagine it would be good for your project also.
this one is cute https://kidfriendlythingstodo.com/decorating-bird-houses-with-edible-bird-seed-glue-craft/
Peanut butter works well to hold seeds on for the birds and they love it .Just a caution the squirrels do to!
This homemade recipe uses flour and gelatin as a base:
PeNut butter is what people use for that the birds love it
