Follow this tutorial to learn how to sew a simple dog bed. This will make a small/medium sized dog bed. Simply Adjust the dimensions to make a bed that is larger or smaller. More detailed instructions can be found on my full blog post.

Wash and dry your fabric. Iron your fabric if you can. I ironed my fabric that I used for the bottom and sides of the dog bed but not the fabric for the top. Cut out a rectangle that measures 20 in X 30 in from the fabric for the top of the dog bed and a rectangle that measures 31 in X 41 in from the fabric for the bottom and sides of the dog bed.

Take you fabric for the bottom and sides and lay it down with the right side up. Lay your other fabric piece on top of it in the center. Use a quilting ruler and rotary cutter or scissors to cut out a 5 inch square from each corner.

Set the top piece of fabric aside. Take one corner of your bottom/side fabric and fold it over so that the two sides of your 5 inch square that you cut out are together, with the right sides of the fabric together. Pin (or clip) and sew them together, sewing 1/2 inch from the edge.

Repeat step 3 for the other 3 corners of the bottom/side fabric.

Now lay your top piece of fabric down on top of the “open box” that you have sewn. Pin it around the top edges. Start in the middle of one side and sew most of the way around the top edge but stop about 3-4 inches short. Backstitch both when you start and stop.

Turn the dog bed right side out. Use an unsharpened pencil or a corner turner to push the corners out so that they are nice and square. Stuff the stuffing into the inside of the dog bed. Once you’ve stuffed it nice and full then you hand stitch the hole in the side shut and you’re done!
