This solid wood beauty has been spray painted white. It’s now all scratched up from the move. I’m looking for a greasy idea for this piece. ( I did find the drawer after I took this picture.)
I would strip the top and stain it a rich color before repainting the rest of it in an antique white. I would also remove the hardware and either spray paint it bronze or strip it and see what color is underneath :)
Because it has so much detail, this piece would look great painted with the edges distressed. I, too, would strip the top and stain it for some contrast.
Chalk paint for sure. Scuff the surface with sandpaper if it is glossy. Two coats of chalk paint usually covers most everything. Use a tiny bit of antiquing wax in the indentations. Update the hardware. Online places like Hobby Lobby carry 100's of styles for pretty inexpensive prices compared to the big box stores.
If you choose to redo the whole piece, strip and refinish, it will be a major project. I would agree with stripping the top and painting the bottom of it. You might consider adding a design transfer, take a look here for an idea:
As others mentioned, going for a distressed look might work for this. If you don't want to strip and redo the top, you could try some contact paper. I think it would make a nice contrast!
Oh fun! I would definitely paint it with chalk paint or mineral paint! I love a cream color with a dark wax around the edges of the drawers would look super pretty! And you can sand around the edges to lightly distress them! :)

Hello I would consider refurbishing with a new color possibly a chalk paint. And upgrading the hardware if that’s in the budget.
I favor the Rustoleum products, their products and support are fabulous. Perhaps it might be available in a color —that you like?
Heres some helpful links, I hope this helps!

Not sure what a greasy idea is. Maybe easy?

You can clean up and glaze if you like the color but want to change a little. I would change the hardware for a quick & easy update.

Beautiful! I am not a huge furniture refinisher, but I would definitely use chalk paint since it doesn't require sanding or priming. Also, check out this link: https://christinafayerepurposed.com/category/repurposed-projects/
This is a friend of mine who does unbelievable makeovers. You might find some inspiration.
