don't want to use boxes to pack books
Maybe you could tie stacks of them together with cord.
You could use bags, but they are very heavy. Liquor store boxes are the best for books.
Rebecca: maybe you will find inspiration here!
How about using straps? Or milk crates? Is there a reason you don’t want to use boxes?
Saran wrap. I was thinking this just earlier tonight, & my answer to myself was saran wrap as I have some already!
Or, vacuum bags that suck the air out.
Suitcases work well also!
Add them in the drawers of your dresser or in the pockets of your coats and jackets. Maybe between your box springs and mattress.
Suit cases with wheels on them. This will make the process of moving them easier.
Yeah I would use suitcases.
Bundle them up with fabric bow ties.
How suitable alternate packing materials to boxes may/may not be for books depends on how the books are going to be transported.
Will they be carried by individuals and packed in small vehicles, or will they be part of a cargo load in a large semi trailer?
Keep in mind that 'only a few books' can be very heavy.
Do you have a coaster wagon, put them in there and roll on.
You could fill a suitcase with the books and move them that way.
This is a great article on how to pack books, fabulous tips to keep them in their best shape, etc. They do pack in boxes but also recommend suitcases for the heaviest...so I think suitcases with wheels would be ideal. https://moving.tips/packing-tips/dos-and-donts-when-packing-books-for-moving/
Sometimes plastic crates work nicely. They are manageable sizes which makes heavy lifting controlled. Some of the crates even fold and collapse.
If you have sturdy fabric totes, you can use those, but be sure not to overload them. I've moved books this way, and it's easier than boxes, but more time consuming because you have to make more trips. I load up the books into the bags, unload them when I get where I'm going to, and take the empty bags back to gather more books.
rolling plastic bins with anti moisture packs to help with humidity in bins so books do not get ruined for long term storage need acid free storage solutions so books do not get ruined
Laundry baskets or plastic bins?
Thank you sooo much for the great replies!
You can use plastic tubs.
Hi Rebecca, I am not sure how many books you have, there are different ways to move books, you can use bags, or backpacks, or rubbermade containers.
How about packing them in a grocery cart? It's easy to move even when full.......
